Quality Independent Living

Welcome to the website for the Ratoath Independent Living Initiative.  This project was developed to design, construct and manage  a complex of high quality apartments specifically designed to suit the needs of people with significant physical disabilities.

The goal when starting this initiative was to push the boundaries of independent living. To establish new and stretching standards by creating a living environment that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to live independently, increase their levels of self esteem and encourage them to become active members of Ratoath’s community.

Located in a newly completed development of “Steeplechase” (only 300 metres from the centre of Ratoath village), “Arkle House” allows its tenants to enjoy independence; creating an opportunity for self-development and fulfilment.

To meet our objectives we used the concept of “Universal Design” for the design, construction and fit out of Arkle House.  Universal design means that the apartment will meet the requirements of all individuals with only minimal and low cost adaptations required.

Arkle House was recently featured on RTE’s About The House TV programme.  It was highly praised by all the participants who felt that although the apartments had been designed to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities the apartments felt ‘normal’.

The complex consists of 12 apartments (7 one-bed and 5 two-bed) plus some shared residential facilities.

This website provides more details about the initiative, the apartments and the special features that make them so unique in their approach.  Additionally there is information for those interested in becoming a tenant.  However, should you have any questions you can simply Contact Us and one of our team members will get back to you.
